Psychosis is the sudden or gradual loss of reality, usually coupled by the inability to relate to how the world used to work. We are constantly learning how the world operates, but sometimes reality can seem to shift from something we were once used to, be it through new experiences of being one with the universe, being seen as “God,” hearing voices, experiencing other worldly sensations, and coming to beliefs outside of consensus reality that others may not be trusted to believe in. Psychoses can be coupled by the introduction of new substances, changes in eating and sleeping patterns, and major life changes.
